One of the most meaningful experiences in my role as an adoption and foster care case manager has been working with a little girl who was placed in foster care shortly after birth. This case holds a special place in my heart because I have been part of her journey from the very beginning and have had the opportunity to see her grow and thrive.
I was first assigned the foster care role once she entered care shortly after she was born. Throughout the case, I worked with her biological parents and helped support their parenting time by providing transportation and emotional support. Ultimately, the biological parents made the difficult decision to release their parental rights, allowing the permanency goal to change to adoption. I continued working with the case as both her foster care and adoption worker, which allowed me to provide consistency to this child throughout this transition.
From the beginning, her foster family expressed a strong desire to adopt her. They cared for her since birth and remained committed and compliant throughout the case process. During my home visits, it was clear how much they loved her and treated her as their own. She was always well cared for, happy, and thriving in their home. Seeing the love, stability, and security they provided reminded me how important a safe, nurturing environment is for a child, especially at such a pivotal stage of life.
Recently, the child was officially adopted by the family who had loved and cared for her since birth. Knowing that I played a role in helping her reach this milestone has been incredibly rewarding. This experience reminded me that our work has lasting impacts not only on children but on families as well. Supporting this child and her family throughout the entire journey has reinforced why I am passionate about adoption. To me, making a difference means helping ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up feeling safe, loved, and wanted. I am grateful to have been part of this child’s story and to have witnessed her journey to a forever family.
