I’ve been working with a young Mom and her 2-year-old child for a few months. They recently moved into an apartment, and Mom was feeling overwhelmed with everything she had going on. She is working with other service providers, trying to assist her mother with her medical needs and put things away in the apartment. Mom had mentioned to me that she was struggling with keeping her daughter on a “normal” routine. The child didn’t usually go to bed until closer to 11 pm or midnight. This led to the neighbors making noise complaints about the child being loud.

I was able to make a difference with this family by helping Mom establish a routine. This included service providers coming on a consistent day and time and helping Mom set a schedule for cleaning and organizing all their belongings after the move. Having a set routine helped Mom’s child have a more consistent routine too, and got the toddler to bed at an earlier time.

What we consider little things, like a routine and learning how to implement one, really do go a long way and have a significant impact!
